Priced out: A housing conversation for young professionals

Priced out: A housing conversation for young professionals

Wednesday, August 5, 2026 (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

If you’re a young professional (40 or under) wondering whether you’ll ever be able to afford a home in Greater Boston, you’re not alone.

Massachusetts’ housing crisis has pushed homeownership increasingly out of reach. Last year, the median single-family home price surpassed $1 million for the first time, leaving many young professionals and families questioning whether they can afford to put down roots here.

Join the Charles River Chamber’s Young Professionals Group for a town hall-style conversation with Congressman Jake Auchincloss, one of Congress’ leading voices on housing policy. He’ll discuss why housing has become so unaffordable, what can be done about it and how we can make homeownership more attainable for the next generation.

You’ll also hear from Andrew Mikula, a leading housing policy researcher and a leader of the Legalize Starter Homes ballot initiative. He’ll explain how the proposal could make it easier to build smaller, more affordable homes in suburban communities — and what that could mean for first-time buyers.

Whether you’re hoping to buy a home, struggling with rising housing costs, or simply trying to understand one of the biggest challenges facing this generation, this is a conversation you won’t want to miss.

Open to young professionals 21- 40.
