Food Pantry Home Delivery and Freedge Deliveries / Stocking
Our two regular weekly volunteer opportunities both benefit the complex and growing issue of fighting food insecurity. 1) Newton Neighbor volunteers deliver food from both the Centre Street and Newton Food Pantries to recipients experiencing transportation challenges which make it impossible for them to physically visit the pantries. This takes our drivers approximately one hour and is a lifeline for many families. 2) Every Thursday, Newton Neighbors is responsible for the pick up of donations to the community Freedge by local restaurants and markets. Volunteers also stock the Freedge, clean and organize it when needed, and may be asked to shop for basic items that may be in short supply.
