Remembering Marshall Sloane, 1926-2019

The chamber is sad to report the passing of our friend, Marshall Sloane, the founder and chairman of Century Bank.

A resident of Chestnut Hill, Mr. Sloane founded Century Bank in a trailer in Somerville, creating New England's largest family-run bank. He was renowned for his philanthropic generosity and dedication to community service and was the recipient of many awards and honors, including the chamber's 2016 R.L. Tennant Award.

"Marshall Sloane was an inspiration," said Greg Reibman, president of the Newton-Needham Regional Chamber. "He was kind, compassionate and savvy. He was a terrific friend to our business community but also a bold, outspoken, advocate for social justice. His legacy and memory will endure for generations."

Mr. Sloane died Saturday at the age of 92. A Boston Business Journal article is here.

Services will be held at Temple Israel in Boston on Wednesday at 11 a.m. and a memorial shiva at Pine Brook Country Club until 8 p.m. and at Century's Medford headquarters on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
