Needham just made curbside pickup even easier

To support small businesses and give the public a safe and easy way to shop locally, the Town of Needham has worked with downtown businesses to create curbside pick spots in front of retailers and restaurants.

The town has created 12 designated “curbside pickup zones,” marked by red and white signs that allow for 10-minute parking. The signs are in front of retail stores and restaurants on Highland Ave., Great Plain Ave., Chapel St., and Dedham Ave.

“Curbside pickup is a win-win for shoppers and businesses alike,” said Select Board member Marianne Cooley. “The easier we make it for people to keep doing their shopping and dining locally, the stronger our community will be when we emerge from this pandemic.”

“We appreciate the town taking the initiative to arrange for curbside pickup spots throughout Needham Center,” said Jerry Michelson of Michelson’s Shoes. “It will definitely be easier for our staff to accommodate customers who prefer to purchase items online and pick them up outside the store. It’s also an added convenience for customers to pull right up to the spots and safely shop and dine locally without having to get out of their cars.”

The curbside pickup spaces will remain indefinitely to support the local economy during the Covid-19 pandemic. Free two-hour parking is also available throughout Needham through the remainder of the year. In addition, the picnic tables the Town placed earlier this year on the Town Common and on the Heights Common will remain available to the public throughout the winter season.
