In an effort to increase the services and resources available to the town’s businesses and nonprofits, the Needham Business Association (NBA) and the Newton-Needham Chamber are joining forces.

The two organizations will merge their events, programs, services and advocacy under one umbrella starting Jan. 1 as part of an agreement signed Nov. 22.

All of the NBA’s best-known events, including the Street Fair, Harvest Fair, Blue Tree Lighting and annual dinner will continue alongside the 100-plus annual programs and networking events produced by the chamber.

Most importantly, the merger will enable the two business associations to strengthen their efforts championing the economic and cultural vitality of Needham, the two organizations’ leaders said.

“For over four decades the Needham Business Association has adapted to the changing business environment to deliver the type of support and advocacy needed by Needham businesses and nonprofits,” said NBA President Paul Good. “Combining our operational and strategic resources will allow the NBA and Newton-Needham Chamber to deliver more value to every member and expand the ways we can serve our vibrant business community.”

“The Needham Business Association has a long, rich history of service and advocacy to Needham and I have the highest respect for the men and women who’ve invested so much to the organization over many decades,” said Chamber President Greg Reibman. “That legacy and the NBA’s most-cherished events will continue on through this partnership.”

A centerpiece of the new organization will be the creation of a new super-committee, called the Needham Business Alliance, which will include Needham business leaders from both organizations. The committee will meet monthly to help plan Needham specific events, discuss issues of economic importance to the town and promote shopping, dining and banking locally.

“The NBA and the Newton-Needham Chamber have both done a great job speaking up for and serving Needham’s businesses,” said Marianne Cooley, chair of Needham’s Board of Selectmen. “This partnership makes both organizations stronger and Needham stronger too.”

Businesses and nonprofits that belong to both associations will save money because they will only pay dues to one organization. NBA members will be able to attend chamber events. Needham-based chamber members will continue to be able to participate in the NBA’s two popular community fairs, Street Fair and Harvest Fair.

The two groups will also merge websites, creating a strong consistent source for information about Needham’s businesses and nonprofits. The NBA website, DiscoverNeedham.com and social media sites will continue to be the source for “Everything Fun, Everything Local” in Needham. The weekly “Things To Do In Needham” newsletter, the focus on the promotion of local Needham businesses and nonprofits, and highlighting important town and community announcements will continue, presented with a fresh new look and with added chamber features in 2018.

The merger will be celebrated at the first annual “Needham Night” dinner at the Needham Sheraton Hotel on the evening of Jan. 31. Ticket information will be announced by both organizations soon.
