A dozen Israelis are making their mark on the Boston-area tech scene, according to the Israeli publication ISRAEL 21c, and a quarter of them do their work here in the N2 Innovation District.

The publication quoted Dan Trajman of the New England Israeli Business Council, a frequent partner of N2, as saying the relationship between Boston and Israel has deep roots.

“Most Israelis who come to Boston are coming to study at the top universities in the area, to do research, to start a company or because they are being relocated by their company. It started in the 1960s and grew since then. There are several generations of successful Israelis, some already retired and some in their prime right now,” Trajman told ISRAEL21c.

Of the 12 highlighted in the article, three have companies headquartered in Newton and Needham. This includes:

• Udi Mokady, co-founder, chairman and CEO of CyberArk Software, located on Wells Avenue in Newton;
• Sharon Shacham, founder of Karyopharm Therapeutics, which is also located on Wells Ave; and
• Dani Golan, founder and CEO of Kaminario, which has offices on 2nd Avenue in Needham.

Also highlighted was Infinidat, which recently moved from its Highland Avenue location in Needham to Waltham, and MedMinder, which has offices on Reservoir Street in Needham.

A study committed by NEIBC notes that Israeli-founded businesses add more than $9 billion to the Massachusetts economy and landed more than $1.2 billion in VC backing between 2013 and 2015.
