Linda Henry to address chamber at annual Fall Business Breakfast

Boston Globe
Managing Director Linda Henry will be the featured speaker at the Newton-Needham Regional Chamber’s Fall Business Breakfast on Thursday Nov. 7 at the Newton Marriott.

The breakfast, the region’s largest annual gathering of business professionals, civic and community leaders, will once again be presented by Needham Bank.

Henry’s appearance comes at a time of great upheaval in the media world but also just as the Globe, in partnership with the Boston University School of Journalism, has launched a pilot project in Newton designed to expand news coverage in the city.

“The Globe’s Newton experiment isn’t just about Newton, it’s about looking for a way to address a loss of local news coverage nationwide; leaving communities in the dark about what’s happening across regions, municipal governments, schools and overall civic life,” said Newton-Needham Regional Chamber President Greg Reibman.

“We’re looking forward to hearing from Linda Henry about how the Globe is fighting to fill this gap while staying financially viable and relevant in the digital economy.”

At Boston Globe Media Partners, Henry oversees the operations at the Globe, boston.com and STAT news. She is a co-founder and chair of HUBweek, a civic collaboration between the Boston Globe, Harvard UniversityMassachusetts General Hospital and MIT that explores the future being built at the intersection of art, science and technology. She also created the GlobeDocs Documentary Film Festival, now in its fifth year.

She is also a partner in Fenway Sports Group, a four-time Emmy-award winning television producer, an urban rooftop farmer and a Guinness World Record holder.

Her husband, John W. Henry is the Globe’s owner and publisher and principal owner of the Boston Red Sox.

Under the Globe’s Newton pilot program launched in September, a class of BU journalism students are focused on covering the city for the Globe’s print and online editions. The paper has also committed to more Newton coverage from its professional staff as well.

The Business Breakfast will also feature remarks from Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller, Needham Select Board Chair John Bulian and other guests.

The chamber will also recognize two local students with the annual “Young Entrepreneurs Award,” sponsored by Kaplansky Insurance and present the prestigious R.L. Tennant Award to a chamber member.
