Jaff stepping down from Newton-Wellesley Hospital

Dr. Michael R. Jaff, President of Newton-Wellesley Hospital announced today that he is departing Newton-Wellesley to pursue a new role with Boston Scientific to continue his career-long focus on improving the health of patients with vascular diseases.

Jaff had been in his position at Newton-Wellesley, part of the Partners Healthcare system in Massachusetts, for three years and a member of the Newton-Needham Regional Chamber’s Board of Directors for two.

The city’s largest employer, Newton-Wellesley Hospital, was recently ranked the top community hospital in Massachusetts by U.S. News & World Report. Previously, Dr. Jaff was responsible for process improvement efforts to redesign healthcare delivery at Massachusetts General Hospital and led its Fireman Vascular Center.

His new opportunity will allow Jaff, a world-renowned vascular specialist, to have an even greater impact on vascular medicine and patients around the world. He will lead clinical and medical affairs strategies to support the development and commercialization of Boston Scientific’s peripheral vascular medical device portfolio—and drive engagement with external stakeholders to advance technologies that deliver strong clinical value and enable patient care.

“On many levels, this was a difficult decision to make. I have a deep connection to you and Newton-Wellesley,” Jaff wrote in an email to colleagues. “Yet I feel that now is the time for me to leave the organization and pursue this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Dr. Jaff received his bachelor’s degree from Dickinson College, PA, his doctorate degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, MO, and completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in vascular medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, OH. He is also a graduate of Harvard Business School’s general management program and the recipient of multiple awards and recognitions and an honorary doctorate of arts degree from Harvard Medical School.

“The chamber is grateful to Dr. Jaff for carving out time from his very full schedule to join us on our board and for his leadership and vision at Newton-Wellesley during an extraordinary challenging time in the health care business,” said Chamber President Greg Reibman. “We wish him the very best.”
