Golf tournament to benefit Second Step

The Second Step, a Newton-based nonprofit committed to providing support for adult and child victims of domestic violence, will be the charity beneficiary at the Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce’s 24th annual  Children’s Charitable golf tournament.

Each year, the Chamber selects a different local nonprofit to be the recipient of a portion of the tournament proceeds. The selection is made by the Newton-Needham Chamber’s Golf Committee, which organizes the annual event.

This year’s tournament takes place Monday, Aug. 3 at Woodland Golf Club.

The Newton-based Second Step offers safety planning, advocacy, long-term transitional housing, children’s programs, legal case management, peer support groups, and outreach and prevention services.

“The Second Step is extremely grateful to the Newton-Needham Chamber for designating us as the recipient of this year’s annual golf tournament,” said Executive Director Sarah Perry. “The proceeds will have tremendous impact on The Second Step’s mission of fostering the safety, stability, and well-being of survivors of domestic violence.

“Our ability to provide housing and comprehensive services to over 800 people living in our community is made possible by the generosity of community-based organizations such as the Chamber. We deeply appreciate your support.”

“We’re very fortunate to have The Second Step as a community resource in Newton,” said Walter F. Tennant, chairman of the golf committee and the Chamber’s treasurer. “The committee was eager to partner with them in support of the tremendous programming and services they provide to the children who have witnessed the abuse of a parent.”

Chamber President Greg Reibman also announced that The Village Bank has once again partnered with the Chamber as the tournament’s primary sponsor.

“The Village Bank has been an active Chamber sponsor for more than a half-century,” Reibman said. “We are especially grateful to Joe De Vito and his entire team at The Village Bank for all they do for our community.“

The Residences at Wingate returns this year as the tournament’s Silver Sponsor. Additional sponsors include Century Bank, Needham Bank, Newton-Wellesley Hospital, RL Tennant Insurance and Rockland Trust.
