A top General Electric executive, who is part of the team relocating to Boston this year, will be the featured speaker at the Newton-Needham Regional Chamber’s annual Green Business Breakfast on Thursday, May 19.

Maryrose Sylvester is president and CEO of Current powered by GE, a first-of-its kind energy company that integrates GE’s LED, solar, energy storage and electric vehicle businesses with its industrial strength Predix platform to deliver cost effective, efficient energy solutions.

One of chamber’s two marquee breakfasts events of the year, the Green Business Breakfast is presented by Eastern Bank and will once again honor area businesses for their innovative advances in reducing energy costs or the creation of green products or services.

The breakfast returns to the outdoor pavilion along the picturesque banks of the Charles River at the Newton Marriott Hotel. It will be held 8-9:30 a.m., and is part of the chamber’s month of programming marking Small Business Month.

Matt Noyes, chief meteorologist at NECN family will be the master of ceremonies.

“The Green Business Breakfast brings together local businesses, energy and environmental experts and policy makers to discuss the challenges and opportunities related to preserving and protecting our environment,” said Greg Reibman, president of the Newton-Needham Chamber.

Sylvester began her GE career in 1987 as an intern at GE Motors in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and has steadily worked her way up through the organization.

Prior to her role at Current, Sylvester served as president and CEO of GE Lighting, where she led more than 12,000 employees from one of GE’s most iconic businesses in an exciting global transformation as world markets shifted toward energy-efficient lighting solutions.

Before joining Lighting, she was president and CEO of GE Intelligent Platforms – GE’s high-technology global provider of software, hardware, services and expertise in automation, operations management and embedded computing, serving the energy, water, oil and gas, manufacturing, government and telecommunications industries.

Sylvester and her husband Mike, will be relocating to the Boston area this year.

The Green Business Breakfast is presented by Eastern Bank with additional support from Mount Ida College, World Energy Efficiencies Services and The Village Bank. It takes place on Thursday, May 19 from 8-9:30 a.m. at the Newton Marriott Hotel outdoor pavilion.

Advance tickets are $45 for chamber members and $50 for non-members. All tickets on the morning of the event will be $60.
