Downtown Improvement Project: Information Session February 23rd
The Town of Needham is sponsoring an information session at Powers Hall, Needham Town Hall at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 23rd for local business and property owners about the Downtown Improvement Project expected to begin in the summer of 2016.
The Downtown Improvement Project is a multi-phase project that will be constructed over several years. Phase one, the most critical and comprehensive, will begin next summer. The primary focus of the project is the replacement of the two traffic signals in Needham Center. The limit of work for this phase is Great Plain Avenue, just east of Dedham Avenue, to Great Plain Avenue, just east of the railroad crossing.
The project is intended to improve traffic circulation, modernize traffic signal control equipment, improve signal response to the railroad preemption, and facilitate pedestrian scale activities. In addition to the replacement of the signals, this phase includes crosswalk improvements, sidewalk widening, new lighting, and the creation of a street edge along the Town Common on Great Plain Avenue.
At this meeting, representatives of the Town of Needham and its design consultant will make a brief presentation and answer any questions that you may have about the project, including timing estimates and potential construction impacts.
