2026 High School Scholarship recipients announced
Four outstanding recent high school graduates have been selected for scholarships from the Charles River Regional Chamber.
This year’s recipients are Amiyah Richelle Fernandes (Needham High School), Yensi Giron (Watertown High School), Jeffrey Peng (Wellesley High School), and Magot Mach (Newton South High School).
Amiyah Richelle Fernandes: University of Massachusetts, Boston
Needham High School Graduate, Amiyah Richelle Fernandes, is known for critically engaging with the world around her, asking the “why” of a subject and not simply accepting things at surface level. She finds herself collaborating with others and cheering her peers on. From her work for the Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity (METCO) to Students Advocating for Life without Substance Abuse (SALSA), Amiyah is committed to advocacy and fostering belonging. In the fall she will be attending University of Massachusetts, Boston and plans to study business management.

Yensi Giron: Wentworth Institute of Technology
Graduate of Watertown High School, Yensi Giron, is known for challenging herself, whether that be through a rigorous undertaking of advanced coursework or through the breadth of her extracurricular activities. As noted by her history teacher, she is careful to both absorb her surroundings and inquire while simultaneously welcoming new challenges and experiences. Yensi can be found playing her flute, wrestling, or even learning about architecture. In the fall, she will be attending the Wentworth Institute of Technology.
Jeffrey Peng: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Jeffrey Peng, graduate of Wellesley High School, is an honest and reliable student to both his peers and his teachers. He is highly motivated, often taking on a mature sense of responsibility, whether that be through independent projects or through team efforts. He is curious, hardworking, and enjoys many pursuits outside of the classroom as well, including Wushu, a traditional Chinese Martial Art, and Boy Scouts. Jeffrey will be attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as an intended aerospace engineering major.
Magot Mach: Boston College
Newton South High School Graduate, Magot Mach, has embraced new challenges with determination and enthusiasm beyond belief. He is an earnest, intellectually curious student who often seeks intellectual and cultural growth across disciplines ranging from history to mathematics to global cultures. While maintaining personal commitments, he never fails to retain a sense of compassion and kindness for others, serving an inspiration for others. Starting in July, Magot will be attending Boston College.
While academic performance and extracurricular activities are important, the chamber’s Scholarship Committee weighed its decision-making heavily on compelling stories that showed the scholarship would make a meaningful impact in each recipient’s life.
Perrin McCormick (Perkins School for the Blind) chaired this year’s scholarship committee. Members included Arif Bhimani (Middlesex Savings Bank), Michelle Biscotti (MassBay Community College), Adrienne Franciosi (Lasell University), Mark Loveless (The Village Bank), Lucas Machado (Curbs Enterprise, Inc.), Josephine McNeil (CAN-DO), and Kevin Ruddy (PTC).
The chamber congratulates Bannon, Pope, Camara, and Chan on their achievements and wishes them success in their next endeavors.
