Nancy Huntington Stager Announces Retirement From Her Role As President And Chief Executive Officer

Eastern Bank Foundation (EBF) announced today the retirement of Nancy Huntington Stager from her role as President and Chief Executive Officer effective July 7, 2025, after a career of 43 years, with the past 30 at Eastern Bank. As part of its succession planning, Turahn Dorsey, who currently serves as EBF’s Chief Impact Officer, will be promoted to President and Chief Executive Officer. Ms. Stager will transition to a senior advisory role.

“Having joined Eastern in 1995 as our Director of Human Resources and the first woman to serve on our Management Committee, Nancy actively shaped the bank’s culture and reputation for doing good in the region,” said Bob Rivers, Executive Chair and Chair of the Board of Directors of Eastern Bank, and Chair of the Board of Trustees of Eastern Bank Foundation. “She also oversaw the Foundation for 25 years, becoming its full-time President and CEO in 2019. She has made enduring contributions leading our philanthropy, volunteerism and civic advocacy, and we thank her for her leadership, guidance and smarts. While no words will adequately express our gratitude and appreciation for all that she has achieved, we are thrilled to announce Nancy as the recipient of our 2025 Celebration of Social Justice honor.”

Ms. Stager reshaped the Foundation’s philanthropy moving from “charitable giving” to “impact investing,” honing its vision and mission to focus on community vibrancy and economic inclusion, while partnering with fellow change-makers across nonprofit, for-profit, and government sectors and continually evolving its strategy to address community needs. Fundamental to EBF’s approach, Ms. Stager led the strategy to hire Foundation Fellows, each with deep expertise in their field, to combine their extensive knowledge and strong relationships with EBF’s financial resources to advance equity in the small business ecosystem, enrich early childhood development, secure safe and affordable housing, and promote workforce development for adults.

Recognizing the impact of the Foundation’s work, the Boston Business Journal has recognized Eastern 13 times for being among the Massachusetts Top 10 Most Charitable Companies. Ms. Stager is a strong advocate for social justice, is a sought-after thought leader, and serves on a number of boards for community-based organizations. She was recently recognized by the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce with the 2024 Pinnacle Award for Non-Profit Management and The Women’s Edge as a Top 100 CEO in Massachusetts.

Ms. Stager will be formally recognized for her contributions at the annual Celebration of Social Justice on October 21, 2025.

“It has been the honor of my lifetime to work with the incredible teams of colleagues at Eastern Bank Foundation and Eastern Bank, and across our communities with so many partners to help create opportunities in the communities we serve,” said Nancy Huntington Stager, President and CEO of the Eastern Bank Foundation. “Rahn Dorsey has been an integral member of the leadership team over the past six years, first as a Fellow and then as Chief Impact Officer. His extensive knowledge, experience and relationships position him exceptionally well to lead the Foundation. I’m delighted the Foundation team and our communities will continue to benefit from his leadership and I congratulate him on this well-deserved promotion.”

Mr. Dorsey’s responsibilities have expanded steadily since he joined the Eastern Bank Foundation in 2019 as a Foundation Fellow where he developed and executed strategies to improve early childhood outcomes in the region. He was promoted in 2022 to the newly created role of Chief Impact Officer focused on advancing the Foundation’s impact across the communities it serves. Mr. Dorsey has played a key leadership role in advancing the Foundation’s approaches to economic mobility and inclusion, as well as measurement, evaluation and learning. In particular, Mr. Dorsey has worked closely with Ms. Stager and the Foundation Fellows to develop EBF’s current mission and strategies, collaborated with them to invest in innovations in public financing for early childhood education, and helped the Foundation make its first debt-based investments in affordable housing and community land ownership through long-term, low interest loans.

For 30 years, Mr. Dorsey has been leading and supporting civic change and building collaborative solutions as an evaluator, grant maker, strategist and public official focused on reform and innovation at the intersections of education, health, housing and economic development in Boston and across the U.S. Prior to joining the Eastern Bank Foundation, he served as the Chief of Education for the City of Boston, having worked as part of Mayor Martin J. Walsh’s cabinet from 2014 to 2018. He spent the first half of his career at Abt Associates as a senior researcher and at the Barr Foundation serving as its first Evaluation Director and a Senior Program Officer in Education. In addition, he is currently dedicated to projects expanding Boston’s Nubian Square, advising on the development of the Jazz Urbane Café, a state-of-the-art arts and restaurant venue, and as Chair of the Board at the Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology, partnering with college leadership to build a new campus in Nubian Square.

“The Eastern Bank Foundation has emerged as a leader in philanthropy under Nancy’s leadership and helped Eastern Bank continue to demonstrate the substance of our “Join Us for Good” motto. I am excited to build on her incredible work and to partner with our teammates and communities across the region to advance economic justice,” added Turahn Dorsey.
