About
Founded in 2017, Story Starters’ mission is to equip families and educators with strategies to develop young children’s anti-racist values and ability to disrupt racism. We offer two core programs using picture books as a tool for helping children understand that identities are intersectional, complex, and socially constructed.
Family Conversations targets children aged 3-8, providing families with six picture books and a caregiver curriculum. Our program spans 8 weeks, with multiple points of contact for families to practice and digest concepts. Families gather in workshops to build a community fostering racial literacy. Since 2017, we’ve supported nearly 450 families and will launch three new cohorts in October 2024.
Building Anti-Racist Classrooms offers 9 hours of training over 4 sessions, helping educators implement identity development curriculum. Since 2021, we’ve supported 145 educators and will bring this professional development to two additional Early Childhood Programs during the 2024-2025 school year.
