About

Founded in 1983, the Newton Food Pantry is the oldest and largest food pantry in the city of Newton. For over 40 years the Newton Food Pantry’s committed volunteers have provided food and personal care items to residents of our city who experience food insecurity. The Newton Food Pantry currently provides supplemental food to approximately 2,100 Newton residents each month. Our clients can shop twice monthly for a hearty supply of nutritionally-balanced food. Those in need will find our shelves stocked with fresh produce, dairy, proteins, personal care items, and culturally-relevant foods.

In the spring of 2021, we began two new initiatives – the Newton Community freedge and the Dry Pantry at Lasell University. The freedge is a 24/7 refrigerator and pantry serving anyone in need. It is located at 420 Watertown Street in Newton. The freedge is stocked by the Newton Food Pantry, many business partners, and our community at large. The Dry Pantry at Lasell University is our first effort to tackle food insecurity on college campuses. In 2022, we welcomed students and staff from all Newton-based colleges to shop at our pantry, regardless of residency.

In order to continue to fulfill our mission of providing nutritionally-balanced supplemental food to Newton residents experiencing food insecurity, we need and appreciate your support. Visit our website to learn more about volunteer opportunities, business sponsorships or to make a donation.
