Question 7: Legalize Starter Homes — What Voters Should Know

Question 7: Legalize Starter Homes — What Voters Should Know

Wednesday, September 23, 2026 (1:00 PM - 2:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

Massachusetts’ housing crisis has made it increasingly difficult for young people, families and workers to find a home they can afford. One reason is that local zoning rules often require single-family homes to sit on large lots, limiting what can be built.

This fall, voters will consider Question 7: Legalize Starter Homes, a statewide ballot initiative that would cap minimum lot sizes at 5,000 square feet for qualifying lots.

In this informational webinar, you’ll hear from housing experts on what this initiative would do, how existing lot-size rules shape development and why they believe the change would help produce more smaller, attainable homes.

The Chamber has endorsed Question 7 because we believe expanding housing options is critical to our region’s workforce and economic competitiveness. Learn more about the proposal and why the Chamber and business community are supporting it this November.
